Domain statuses, briefly.
The status codes in a whois result tell you the state of a domain. The most common ones:
clientTransferProhibitedThe registrar has locked the domain so it cannot move to another registrar. This is a common, recommended lock against domain theft.clientHoldThe registrar has taken the domain out of DNS. Common causes: an unpaid invoice, an unverified owner email, or an abuse report.redemptionPeriodThe registrar has deleted the domain and the registry holds it for 30 days. Website and email are down. It can still be restored, for a fee on top of the renewal price.pendingDeleteThe last stage before deletion. For 5 days the domain can no longer be restored, then it is released and anyone can register it.
